Crop Insurance loss guidelines – Spring Edition

Losses are sometimes impossible to avoid when it comes to farming. During the Spring season there are many situations which can arise that you need to be aware of, and prepared to handle in regards to your crop insurance policy.

Below is a list of some of the more common issues we see. Please keep in mind that this list is NOT all inclusive, and you may be facing something unique to your operation. Be sure to reach out to your Crop Insurance Agent to get help!

Spring Loss Guidelines:

 

    • Replant: you are out scouting your fields if you happen to notice some Winter Wheat that did not make it in some areas, and you want to Replant it please keep the following in mind:
        • You must submit a Notice of Loss, and receive written authorization from a crop insurance adjuster before replanting to qualify for a replant payment.

    • Winter Option: you notice that quite a bit of your Winter Wheat did not make it, and you are thinking you might want to destroy it, and not take it to harvest. Keep the following in mind:
        • WO – you must already have the Winter Option (WO) on your policy. If you do not have it your only option is to Replant your Winter Wheat.
        • You must submit a Notice of Loss, and receive written authorization from a crop insurance adjuster before destroying the Winter Wheat.

    • Prevent Plant: you are ready to go out and seed, but you are unable to because of a variety of reasons. Keep the following in mind:
        • You must submit a Notice of Loss, and receive written authorization from a crop insurance adjuster before you can qualify for a prevent plant payment.
